The Museum of Sacred Art is housed in the old Episcopal Court of Funchal. This building from the 17th century suffered changes throughout time, mainly in the 18th century.
There are two distinct nucleus within the museum:
- Flemish Art: dates from the finals 15th century up to the 1st half of the 16th century
- Paintings
- Sculpture
- Jewelry
- Portuguese Art: dates from the 16th century up to half of the 18th century
- Paintings
- Sculpture
- Jewelry
- Vestments
The huge presence of the Flemish Art in this museum has all to due with the sugar trades establish between Madeira and Flanders in the 15th and 16th centuries.

Opening Hours:
Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 to 12:30 and from 14:30 to 18:00
Closed: on Mondays and Bank Holidays.
