The Museum of Sacred Art is housed in the old Episcopal Court of Funchal. This building from the 17th century suffered changes throughout time, mainly in the 18th century.

There are two distinct nucleus within the museum:

-      Flemish Art: dates from the finals 15^th century up to the 1^st half of the 16^th century

• Jewelry

-      Portuguese Art: dates from the 16^th century up to half of the 18^th century

•  Paintings
• Sculpture
• Jewelry
• Vestments

The huge presence of the Flemish Art in this museum has all to due with the sugar trades establish between Madeira and Flanders in the 15^th and 16^th centuries.
