The beauty of its architecture was inspired by the Hispano-Arabic and gothic-Romanesque styles. It was built in 1514 and has one of the most beautiful ceilings in Portugal, carved from Madeiran wood.

The bishop’s throne in the chancel was inspired in Flemish style, the main door is gothic, and the 17th century gold leaf has some of the architectural features of the Manueline style.

The architectonic beauty of the cathedral is justified by its Hispano-Arabic and Roman-Gothic lines. Built in 1514, the cathedral holds one of the most amazing wooden work ceilings of Portugal.
